First aid for glamour-from an advertisement for compacts in the 1946 Sears, Roebuck, and Company catalog. Here is an elegant vintage 1940s Elgin American ladies compact. Featuring a lacy design on a goldtone setting. Square in shape, measures 2-3/4" on each side. Opens to reveal a mirror, a powder puff with Elgin American lettering. The lid of the powder compartment is engraved Elgin American, also Made in USA. The powder container is contains loose powder. The compact is in very good condition. Substantial weight and quality. A fabulous vintage compact I am tempted to keep myself.

Vintage Cameo Wedgwood Style Watchcase Compact

Here is a wonderful vintage watchcase compact! Circa 1940s. Made of enameled blue metal and decorated with a cameo style design on the top of the compact. The remainder of the compact is goldtone metal.. A black cord is attached with a triangular loop at the top of the compact, much like a pocket watch. The compact is fitted with a powder sifter, a puff , and a mirror. Unmarked. An unusual vintage compact, and very collectible! In good condition. It does not appear to have been used in many years, the inside items have some wear as does the bottom of the compact; this wear is typical with an item of this age. A friendly reminder this compact has been previously owned and used.

1940s Elgin American Glamorous Black & Gold Compact

This is a lovely vintage 1940s Elgin American ladies compact. Featuring a combination of gold lacy design on a background of shining black enamel. Described as "smartly advanced in design" in a 1946 ad. Square in shape, measures 2-3/4" on each side. Opens to reveal a mirror, a powder puff with 'Elgin American 1294' lettering. The lid of the powder compartment is engraved Elgin American, also Made in USA. The powder container is almost full of loose powder, and appears to have been only lightly used as does the powder puff. The compact is in excellent condition. Substantial weight and quality. A vintage Charles of the Ritz powder box. Looking at this, you can just imagine a lady preparing for an elegant evening out in years past. By pushing the center, and turning the box, it opens to reveal an inner compartment for powder (it is empty at the moment but definitely can be used again). A lightweight box, of deep brown with gold lettered accents. The powder box measures 2 5/8" in diameter, and 1" in height. Marked CR in cursive on the front, Charles of the Ritz, N.Y. with patent number of 3,172,559 which dates this item to the early 1960s. A lovely vintage powder box to complement any collection. A friendly reminder this powder box has been previously owned and used.

Here is a fabulous vintage Zell Fifth Avenue watchcase compact! Circa 1950s. Made of goldtone metal and decorated with clear rhinestones and pearl mounted on the top of the compact. The back has a lovely intricate engine-turned design. A black cord is attached with a triangular loop at the top of the compact, much like a pocket watch. The compact is fitted with a powder sifter, a puff (marked Zell Fifth Avenue in gold lettering), and a mirror. Marked 'USA' on back. An exquisite vintage compact, and very collectible! Vintage Elgin Gazelle Compact-American Beauty

Another fabulous vintage Elgin American Beauty compact featuring a wonderful gazelle design. The compact is square in shape, measuring 3-1/2" on all sides. The compact has a raised etched design on the front cover of a pair of wonderful gazelles running. The compact opens to reveal a compartment holding a mirror (in good condition) and a powder section. The bottom of this container is engraved 'American Beauty' and 'by Elgin American', also 'Made in U.S. A.'. The powder section contains a peach colored powder puff with the words 'American Beauty', and a powder sifter. The powder container is empty of loose powder, and appears to have never been used. The compact is in excellent condition, with some slight surface scratches. Substantial weight and quality. A lovely gift for someone or even a nice present to yourself! Please note this is a vintage compact, previously owned and used.

Large Rex Fifth Ave. Vintage Compact

This large REX Fifth Avenue round goldtone compact, also called a flapjack due to it's shape, was probably made during the 1940's when this style was popular. Measures 4" in diameter. Features a sun burst geometric design across the front cover. Compact in very good condition with only minimal wear on finish (typical of vintage items used daily), tight snaps when closed, and a clear mirror. Inside includes a powder puff, screen, and loose powder. This item is marked 'Made in USA' on the inside cover. A nice collectible compact from one of the largest compact manufacturer!
